I seem to be missing out on all the NaNo-mania sweeping my f-list XD

I think the last time I posted here was... far too long ago. I stopped doing more than just checking my friends pages, and even that stopped for a while because, well, actually I don't really know why. There's been a lot to update and I just haven't done it. I've had the time, certainly, but I just never posted anything. I think it was partly because I didn't think anyone would read this who I didn't talk to in real life, and there are better ways of communicating with people you know for real than a post in a livejournal.

I've realized that as the post at the top of this journal shows, I haven't done as much as I wanted to in my 101 in 1001, but the things that I have done are kind of wonderful to me. I didn't read as many new books as I wanted, and I didn't do a lot of the things that I thought would be important to me enough to actually do, and there were things that were majorly important on there that I should have done and didn't.

So I'm starting it over. I'm going to be thinking of things as all of y'all writers are cranking out the words, and come December 1, I'm posting a new list. I need goals for myself, and a checklist certainly helps. If you who are reading this want to, feel free to look at what I have up now (I'm not taking it down) and make suggestions. There aren't 101 things on that list, and I think I set the bar too high in some places, too low in others, but it's a good indication of the things I wanted to accomplish.

That said, one of the things is still going to be something along the lines of 'post in your damn journal'.

This webcomic right here gave me the idea to try it myself.  I am now addicted to seeing all the weird places you can get to.  SO  I have created this meme with a change or two.

Step 1: Open wikipedia
Step 2: Type in Tacoma Narrows Bridge
Step 3: Scroll down until you hit "See Also"
Step 4: Pick one and click.
Step 5: Continue to pick different things from "See Also" for 5 minutes.  Just keep going.  Whatever strikes your fancy, it doesn't matter what.
Step 6: When five minutes are up, STOP and post where you stopped in your journal.

If you come to a page with no "see Also" section, back up a step and try again.

I stopped after 5 minutes at "Latin Mass Society of England and Wales"

EDIT: After some cross posting we have gotten:
Crab Island in Lake Champlain
Sudestada
blissymbol
micronations
Malibu Surfer Problem
and
Boston Molasses Disaster

as well as the two in the comments.  Any more?

I still want a cigarette, but its getting much easier to tell myself "Nah".

I also got a kick out of telling Patty (the crazy woman who lives in my apartment complex and constantly hangs out at 7-11 bumming cigarettes and dollars and stuff) that I don't smoke anymore. She looked really upset. XD

It really does help to have all the kudos and support from everyone. Thank you all.

But I know I'm doing the right thing.

The time is 6:37 PM on Thursday, April 9th, 2009. I am 19 hours into having quit smoking. For the last time.

Before you comment, please go here.

I know this is right. I just don't feel well. I'd appreciate some support. Thanks.

My Samhain was full of illness, unfortunately. Mine, mostly. We went to Janice's Halloween party, had some fun, and then I had to go home because my nose? I couldn't breathe through it. At all. So far, I've taken Aleve cold and sinus, TheraFlu severe cold, Clariten-D (in case it was allergies. It's not) and Tylenol cold and sinus. Nothing has worked. Bleugh.

Oh, and costumes this year included Pennywise the Clown (from IT), The Joker, A Roman Centurion, a gypsy, 4 pirate wenches in IDENTICAL costumes, Charlie Brown, the scarecrow (from Batman), and a grecian goddess-type-thingy. It was pretty cool. Apart from the death part.

Tonight? I got to suffer through THE LAST WEDDING OF THE YEAR. It would have actually been fun if I could taste the food.

Now? Off to bed I go, to enjoy the hour that doesn't exist and its siblings.

...Fucking Exhausted.

This is my official post stating that I HAVE A JOB!!!!!!

Really!!!

I am the secretary at St. Anthony's School in Yonkers. It is a Catholic grammar school with a very small enrollment, and lots of great people who work/teach there. There is one drawback to this work environment.

I have to BE THERE at 7:45 AM. This means getting up at 6:30 with the hubby, and leaving at 7:15 at the latest. So for people who I am supposed to talk to/RP with/be social with, this is why I've been AWOL. To be up that early, I really have to go to bed around 10:30 or 11:00, which is a HUGE change for me.

I mean, HUGE. There are nights now when I get into bed at 9:45 or 10:00. My mother has never laughed so hard in her life.

But this means a steady paycheck (with direct deposit for the first time EVAR) and actual vacations. So far, as long as I get to sleep at night at a decent time, It hasn't been so bad! AND! AND!! I have Halloween/Samhein off! So yeah, this is going to work out OK. I think.

Anyway, that's what's going on in my life right now. If I owe you time for stuff, I'm working on it right now before I run out to get a skirt altered with my mom.

My morning was actually going well, for once. I actually got up at 8:00 and was out of the house at 8:30 to go to my 9:00 am English class in Murphy Hall at Iona. I parked on the left side of the garage, walked all the way across campus, lit a cigarette, crossed the street, finished the cigarette, and went inside. I went to my classroom and sat down. We started class. I believe it was Moby Dick.

A security guard came in and said all classes after 11:00 were canceled. Not why, just that they were canceled. I didn't have a 10:00 so I was excited to go home. I mean, hey, we all were. I waked back across the street, lit a cigarette, and started walking back to the car. I saw some friends of mine and passed on the news. They said they knew and that they were going to the prayer service. When I asked for what, they said they didn't know, just that there was one. I was just about at my car when Brendan (my husband now) and his sister drove up really fast. Brendan asked me if I had heard. I said, "Heard what?" because I still didn't know. He told me to go home and turn on the radio in the car. I remember being so confused. I turned on the radio to hear Howard Stern saying that he heard from his daughter and that she was OK. I turned to the news and finally heard what had happened.

I immediately called my father, who was OK, his workers were OK, his drivers were OK. I got home and saw my mother who said my aunts and uncles and cousins were OK. I called Shell who hadn't heard from her mother and was worried. I called around and found out that she was on her way home and was OK. I was amazed that I could seem to get through to people. My cleaning lady of 20-some-odd years was there crying because she had heard from her son and he was alright. Brendan came back and we went for a drive, calling other people who we were worried about. We went into Bronxville and talked to people. Whoever wanted to talk. We helped out at the spontaneous candle-light vigil at the high-school.

I still don't understand it.

I pray for those who lost loved ones. I mourn the terrible loss of life. And I wish it had never happened.

Well. If this isn't a kick in the teeth.

So I've been re-freshing Craigslist all day, looking for something that 1) pays more than $8.50 an hour, 2) is better hours than part time, 3) has more stability than temporary and 4) isn't in Jersey. And you know what I find?

My Old Job

Which she said she would call me about when it opened again at the end of the summer.

I'm going out now...

Now that Shell (who is TEH AWESOME) fixed my LJ Client so that I can X-Post EVERYWHERE I really have no excuses not to post all the friggin time.

[info]mysticshell and [info]olukemi hosted a tea-party yesterday for myself, Jason and Diana which was amazing. Shell made cookies (gingersnaps and samoas. You read that right), Diana made awesome scones, Ai made these amazing sandwiches with yummy spread which I am appropriating for my next shindig, and Jason brought Diana. I made these smoked salmon sandwiches with onion and capers and dill on pumpernickel, and substituted cucumber for salmon to make vegetarian ones for Jason and DIana and they were actually pretty good! We watched Alice in Wonderland (the animated one), joked around all over the place, and in general had a fantastic time.We really need to do this more often!

I then went home and took a short nap so that I could go out and actually see people. Slave was pretty dead, but there was a GIANT FLYING COCKROACK OF DOOM that made everyone do the icky dance. After that, pretty much everyone decided it was time to go home.

Today, I slept in for a bit, then got up and sat withthe cats for a bit. Brendan came home, we ordered food from Pizza Pizza and watched The Royal Tenenbaums. I love that movie. Bren's napping and then we're going to go out to the Cafe Haus for a bit. And that's pretty much it. There's nothing at all on Craigslist for me to apply to, so my life is still sans job. Hopefully that will change sometime soon.
